Free Film Screening: The Snake and the Whale (Lopez Island)

Join the Friday Harbor Film Festival for the June edition of Best of the Fest with a free screening of The Snake and the Whale (2025, 96 min.) at the Lopez Center for Community and the Arts, Friday, June 26 at 7 PM.

Six-time Emmy Award winner John Carlos Frey examines the four federal dams on the Lower Snake River and their cascading impact on the salmon runs that 74 Southern Resident orcas depend on to survive, following the evidence through decades of decisions about the river, the fish, and the communities whose futures are bound to both. A recorded interview with Executive Producer Scott Levy follows, with updates on the film and the dam removal fight. Free to attend; no RSVP or ticket required. The Snake and the Whale is sponsored by Island Thyme. Best of the Fest is presented by Cascade Public Media and The Journal of the San Juan Islands.
