Orca Action Month Film Series: Elwha River Salmon Recovery & Kelp Lifeways
The Stewardship Network of the San Juans presents two short documentary films at The Whale Museum in Friday Harbor — Friday, June 12 at 7 PM — as part of the Orca Action Month Film Series.
Elwha River Salmon Recovery (12 min., 35 sec.) captures the return of salmon to the Elwha River following the largest dam removal in U.S. history, tracing the river's recovery and its connection to the Southern Resident killer whales who depend on Chinook salmon to survive.
Kelp Lifeways (17 min.) explores the deep ecological and cultural ties between the Salish Sea's kelp forests, Pacific Northwest tribes, and the marine life that depends on them.
Filmmaker and marine biologist Dr. Florian Graner — Executive Director of Sound Water Stewards — joins for a Q&A following both films. Free to attend; $5 donation encouraged. Co-sponsored by the Friday Harbor Film Festival, San Juan Islands Visitors Bureau, The Whale Museum, Center for Whale Research, F.O.L.K.S. (Friends of Lime Kiln Society), and Frien
