Documentary: The American Revolution

Join the Orcas Island Public Library for a special community screening of selections from Ken Burns’ powerful new documentary, The American Revolution, followed by a thoughtful civic conversation about the founding of our nation — and what it means today.

After viewing a thirty-minute portion of the film at the Orcas Center, attendees are invited to stay for a moderated discussion led by Orcas Island Public School's history and social studies teachers Phil Carter and Bradley Ludwig. Together, we’ll reflect on the people, principles, conflicts, and contradictions that shaped the American Revolution — and explore how those themes continue to resonate in our own time.

This program is designed to bring neighbors together across generations for shared learning and respectful dialogue. Whether you’re a lifelong history enthusiast, a student encountering these stories for the first time, or simply curious about how our past informs our present, you are warmly invited to participate
