Light & Shadow - Opening Reception

The Visual Arts Committee of Orcas Center invites the community to a joint opening reception on Friday, August 28, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., celebrating two new exhibitions: the community show “Light and Shadow” and a solo exhibition of recent paintings and prints by narrative painter Peter Carlson, titled “Me Here You There.” Enjoy great art, meet the artists, and take in live entertainment, complimentary refreshments, and a wine bar.

For this community show, the VAC welcomes artists to contribute pieces that reflect their own interpretation of the light and shadow theme. Space permitting, we will accept up to three pieces per artist, and we will consider all art mediums for display. Community shows are open to all island artists, both beginning and experienced, and aim to showcase island art and celebrate our creative neighbors. To participate, bring your artwork (ready to be displayed or hung) to Orcas Center on Installation Day, Aug. 26, from 10 a.m. to noon. The VAC will handle all placement and hanging. "Light and Shadow" will be on display from Aug. 28 to Sept. 22.

Carlson's “Me Here You There,” featuring recent paintings and prints, will be on display from Aug. 28 to Oct. 2. Meet the artist at the opening reception. Carlson is a narrative painter who creates imagery grounded in story. His paintings invite the viewer to ask questions, make connections, and fill in the blanks.
