Flat Hat Distilling is a soon-to-be “farm to glass” distillery offering whiskey, bourbon, brandy, vodka, and rum. All offerings will be made from “grown on the farm” ingredients, distilled in a barn built in 1889. Tastings will be offered and bottles available for purchase. Flat Hat is an aviation term that arose when, during the barnstorming era, an acrobatic pilot flew too low and flattened a spectator’s top hat, thereafter having to give up two weeks' pay to replace it. The term then began to be used to describe showing off in an aircraft and military pilots were warned not to “flat hat” over their girlfriend’s homes.
