Eastsound Waterfront Beach Cleanup

Join The Exchange on Saturday, August 23, from 11 am to 1 pm at Eastsound Waterfront Park for a hands-on effort to tackle microplastics pollution.

After a successful and eye-opening series of beach cleanups last summer, The Exchange is calling on the community to join our Zerowaste Team down at The Eastsound Waterfront Park Beach on Saturday, August 23rd from 11 am to 1 pm.

At first glance, our beloved waterfront park beach may look pristine, but a closer look tells a different story. The beach is covered in microplastics, tiny fragments of plastic that are less than 5mm in size.

During last year’s cleanups, we found hundreds of nurdles – tiny plastic pellets about the size of a lentil, used to manufacture plastic products. We also found a variety of plastic items such as bottle caps, shotgun shells, fishing line, and more. There were even layers where it appeared the plastic had broken down into smaller particles that were almost impossible to pick up.

This series of beach cleanups isn’t just about picking up trash. Our goal is to spread awareness and educate our community about microplastics. Let’s inspire each other to take action!
