Indigenous People of Ecuador "Caretakers of the Amazon"

Hello, I am Cate Hempton, aka Cathy Poole, who had the privilege of being raised on Lopez. I understand and value community, the preciousness of the environment, and the joy in bringing people together to make a meaningful change to the world we all share. I personally want to invite YOU to join my husband and I, for a relaxed, intimate evening with our Cofan family visiting from Zabalo Village, Ecuador.
The Cofan were once thought by anthropologists to be an extinct tribe who had once inhabited the deep Amazon with perhaps a population up to 35,000 individuals who were known for mastery of healing plants and dart poisons. Reduced in numbers to a mere 300, they were led out of the jungle by legendary Randy Borman to reclaim their lands--one million acres of pristine wilderness. But in a world of more than 8 billion people their vast natural resources of timber, oil, and gold, have attracted illegal logging, oil extraction, and mining. They desperately need our help to continue to save these lands and their way of life. These lands are home to countless endangered species, serve to mitigate global climate change, and provide the very oxygen we breathe.
Meet Federico Borman, son of recently deceased Randy Borman, along with his wife, Emmy, to discuss what you might do to help defend these lands and become a supporting member of the Cofan community.
We promise you and enriching evening filled with informal storytelling, light hearted discussions, photos, and a deep immersive audio experience by Gordon Hempton, The Sound Tracker®.
Hope you can join us!
With love,
Cate
