The Whale Museum promotes stewardship of whales and the Salish Sea ecosystem through education and research. Visit this historic building in downtown Friday Harbor, only three blocks from the ferry landing. With fun and educational exhibits about whales, free videos, and a well-stocked gift shop that features marine mammal books, art, and gifts, the Whale Museum is a great first stop on a visit to Friday Harbor.

Plan your trip around one of the museum's events, such as Marine Naturalist Training (two sessions offered each year, spring and summer), the Pod Nods where kids get to sleep over in the museum in July and August, or the Summer Lecture Series. Guided and unguided tours of the museum are also available. Symbolically Adopt an Orca, and support marine mammal education and research, and learn what it takes to "Be Whale Wise!" when viewing whales in the wild.

Museum and Gift Shop are open daily from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.

Calling volunteers! Help promote stewardship of the Salish Sea’s wildlife by working with the Soundwatch Boater Education program, the Stranding Network, and numerous other behind-the-scenes opportunities. Prior experience a plus but not required. Training provided. CContact: Molly-Anne Chlovechok, mollyanne@whalemuseum.org.
