Just a scenic ferry ride or a short flight from the northwest Washington mainland lies a paradise for the adventurous in spirit, whether you yearn for the slow pace of island time or the excitement of new experiences. Come and explore. Come and enjoy. Come and dream.
Spring in the San Juan Islands
Spring is opening season for outdoor adventure in the islands. There’s excitement in the air, and a promise of rebirth and renewal. On land, gardeners and farmers till the soil. Pastures come alive with sweet newborn lambs and calves, grazing horses, alpacas and llamas. On sea, boaters and orca whales begin appearing in our waters more frequently.
When you visit, bring layers and comfy shoes. Rent a kayak, bike or moped. Enjoy a whale watch tour or go birding. Explore beaches, waterfalls and hiking trails. Watch artists create in their studios. Find that perfect gift of jewelry, pottery, paintings, sculptures, antiques and more. Visit a farm and feast on fresh, local foods at a restaurant or farmers’ market. During National Historic Preservation Month in May, take a walking tour of historic Friday Harbor, discover the delights of our three history museums, or visit our National Historical Park.
This spring there’s even more reason to celebrate, with the recent designation of the San Juan Islands National Monument, preserving some of the most scenic shorelines and forests.
Come and celebrate spring in the beautiful San Juan Islands!
