San Juan Islands Dining
Fine dining in the San Juan Islands means tasty food -- often locally produced -- served in a laid-back atmosphere (forget the jacket and tie). Many of the islands’ restaurants take advantage of the bounty from local growers, both for its excellence and freshness, and out of environmental concern. Consider adding a local wine to your meal in these establishments -- labels from San Juan Vineyards and Lopez Island Vineyards are featured on many of their wine lists.
In the mornings, enjoy drip coffee, espresso, juice and fresh baked cinnamon rolls, starting at 8:30 a.m. every day. For lunch, choose from an Islander prime rib dip sandwich, a variety of burgers, salads, fresh seafood, famous homemade clam chowder or fish and chips. Dinner features the Islander's famous Prime Rib with horseradish, fresh seafood including salmon, halibut, prawns, oysters, scallops, and fine steaks.

One of the most intricately decorated Victorian homes in Friday Harbor, this majestic building overlooking the ferry terminal was built for the manager of the Friday Harbor Packing Company, and is the last physical reminder of the once great salmon cannery that stood on the harbor. Now, the upstairs rooms, Ferry Landing Suites, are available as vacation rentals, and the Doctor's Office Cafe serves up espresso, ice cream, pastries and lunch. A great place to have a snack and wait for the ferry, the old porch is a gathering place with a view, just as it was when it was first built in 1905. [more...]
