Orcas W.I.L.D. is an educational space where visitors and residents of the island can glean knowledge of our diverse ecosystem here in the San Juan Islands and surrounding areas. Orcas W.I.L.D. promotes awareness of programs and happenings relevant to our community via informational and interactive displays on topics such as the Southern Resident Orca population, intertidal species, natural history of the area and much more. We consider ourselves to be the intersection where science, education, and community outreach meeting to promote a deeper understanding and subsequent conservation of our natural environment and its irreplaceable inhabitants.
Orcas Wildlife Institute for Learning and Discovery has collaborated with various local non-profits to display information on a wide variety of topics. Our collaborations feature informative installments from the Indian Island Marine Health Observatory, the Center for Whale Research, and Orcas Island Elementary students to name a few. Our topics range from marine life to seabirds to environmental care and awareness. We love educating the public on these topics and are always open to input on issues that people would like to learn more about, so feel free to ask our naturalists for a detailed tour or to give them feedback on our center.
