Presenting Orcas Voices

Our 2017 featured exhibit showcases how Orcas History comes alive through the museum’s Orcas Voices Oral History Project.
Orcas Voices uses the recorded stories and photographs of local residents to preserve the history and culture of Orcas Island. More than a hundred interviews have been recorded, transcribed, digitized and shared with families, residents, and visitors. The multimedia exhibit includes new oral histories, objects from our collection, text quotes, photos and an exciting new listening station that enables visitors to hear a selection of audio interviews. The exhibit also traces how these oral histories have been collected over time and the variety of equipment used over the decades. Presenting Orcas Voices strives to inspire further exploration of the museum’s collection and the stories that make up Orcas history.
