Lost Wax Bronze Sculpture with Maria & Eben
Make your own small-scale bronze sculpture using the ancient technique of lost wax casting! Maria Michaelson and Eben Shay will guide you through this exciting process to a creation that is truly unique.

Thursday, Nov. 7, Friday, Nov. 8, Saturday, Nov. 9, Thursday, Nov. 14, Friday, Nov. 15
1:00-4:00 p.m. each day, with optional personal work time after 4:00 p.m.
Day 1: Students will get an overview of the process, begin their molds, and work on their sculpture ideas.
Day 2: Wax working! Students will create the wax sculpture that will define the bronze. This process may take longer depending on the project, so pack a snack and stay later than 4:00 p.m. if you need to!
Day 3: Drop in between 1-4 on Saturday for the second layer of mold
Day 4: Last Layer of mold, Burn out! This is the day bronze will be poured.
Day 5: Students will sand, patina and make finishing touches on their bronze sculptures.
Maria Michaelson studied lost wax bronze sculpture in a sculpting village in Burkina Faso and is well-versed in this technique. Maria and Eben have both taught lost-wax casting both in their studios and at Kirkland Art Center. They are excited to share this amazing process with you!
