Lime Kiln State Park Lighthouse Tours - Empty the Tanks

May 12, 2018
3:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Admission Information:

Free Tour, Parking in the State Park is $10 per vehicle

On Mother's Day weekend, the Lime Kiln Lighthouse will be open to the public for tours to the top of the lighthouse.  Honoring all moms, we will also celebrate the matriarchs of our beloved J, K, and L pods of Southern Resident Killer Whales (Orcas). Come on over and find out how they help each other with birthing, share prey, teach how to find prey, echolocate prey, communicate with each other, go through menopause (YES menopause!!!) and how we know so much about them from non-invasive studies in their natural environment! Who knows, they may just swim by!

This is a joint event with Empty The Tanks, a 501(c) 3 that brings awareness to the condition of whales and dolphins held in captivity. Throughout the world, whales have been captured to entertain people. Most people don't know what it takes for a whale to be removed from the ocean and be housed in a tank. Young whales from our local pods were captured in the 60's and 70's and taken to zoos and aquariums. Empty the Tanks is helping us re-think whale shows, swim-with-dolphin programs and "research" performed on whales in captivity.

Please join us for this fun, educational event on Mother's Day weekend. Location: Lime Kiln Point State Park. Tours are free! Education is free! Parking in the State Park is $10 per vehicle BUT the first 10 island resident families will receive a $10 bill to cover parking so come on down and bring the family and a picnic!
