Female composers and a lighter “pops” program highlight Friday Harbor Chamber Music Festival 2018.  Artistic Director and cellist Sasha von Dassow has asked returning Northwest professional artists Cecilia Archuleta (violin), Alexander Dunn (guitar), and Brandon Vance (violin) to join him in the three-day festival in the Whittier, with more artists expected to join the group closer to festival time.

Sasha says Wednesday’s program will focus on the brother and sister pairing of the music of Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn.  Friday’s pops program includes an eclectic mix of repertoire, from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story to Aaron Copland’s Rodeo. Sunday will be devoted to music from the United States, including Amy Beach’s imposing piano quintet and Gwyneth Walker’s Sweet Land Variations.
