Island Stage Left - Shakespeare's "The Comedy of Errors"

Island Stage Left’s annual summer “Shakespeare Under the Stars” returns with a splashy, hilarious production of “The Comedy of Errors” on the outdoor stage at Wold Road.

This is the only Shakespeare play that can truly be called zany. It involves two sets of identical twins who are unaware of each other’s presence in the same town. The comic confusion is as far-out as a psychedelic Peter Max poster, and Stage Left is setting the play in a 1960s fantasy land awash in color. Set, costumes and music are all designed to let Shakespeare’s crazy-witty play blossom with humor – and, under the mayhem, there’s a deeper story playing out, of a family split apart and long separated, but always dreaming of reunion.

The show runs Thursdays through Sundays, July 14-August 14, at Island Stage Left,1062 Wold Road, San Juan Island. Chairs are provided, but bring blankets and/or warm clothes (even parkas) for when the sun goes down. Admission is free, donations are gratefully accepted. CURTAIN TIME 8 pm. (360) 378-5649
