On August 1, 1966, at a charity event at the Orpheum Theatre in Seattle, an audience viewed the first showing of the movie Namu the Killer Whale. The film was filmed in the San Juan Islands and Rich Cove in Kitsap Country. The film showed in Friday Harbor at the Madd Playhouse (today, the Palace Theatre) on September 15, 1966. Namu the Killer Whale utilized many local islanders as background players, and Clara Tarte as Carrie, a character in the film. A Movie Remembered is a retrospective of the film Namu the Killer Whale, followed by the memories of islanders who participated in the filming on-set and in the background through services to the crew.
