Francie Allen sculpts fluid wire figures and merges them with shadows and music to create a multi-sensory installation in the light-filled Atrium Gallery
“Space is a critical element in my work since at the atomic level most of the human body is composed of space. We are porous like my sculptures: space and air move in us and through us.”
Fluid transparent bodies – visceral and sculptural – cast their shifting shadows in her invented public spaces. Francie’s undulating figures are fashioned of wire netting and other lacey materials, a perfect foil for special lighting effects to create environments of shadows.
Many years as both dancer and sculptor have led her to these multi-sensory installations where she choreographs events that invite further manipulation and creative action by performing artists, musicians, videographers, and the viewing public – all adding their part to the community experience.
A special event on Saturday, November 6 at 4:30 features music by Nick Tipp, music producer, and a dance performance “inside” the On Being Alive! art installation. From many years as a dancer and sculptor, Francie Allen has created multi-sensory installations accompanied by choreographed events. The total experience with the art, music, and dance add to the community experience.
Entrance fee for this event will be on a Pay As You Can basis. As always SJIMA members and those 18 and under enter free of charge. No reservations are necessary
