San Juan Islands Scenic Byway
Washington State's newest Scenic Byway is the San Juan Islands Scenic Byway, designated in April 2008.
This summer, experience the stunning Byway without your car -- aboard the local "Explorer Bus" ... or by bike, moped or other island transportation option. Take advantage of this summer's 2 for 1 savings special -- buy one "Explorer Bus" day pass and receive the second one free! ($15 value)
The Byway is divided into three segments: the first one-third is the marine highway route between Anacortes and the San Juan Islands traveled aboard a Washington State Ferry, the second one-third is a driving tour around San Juan Island, and the last third is a driving tour on Orcas Island.
Our new State Scenic Byway is overflowing with natural beauty, history, arts and culture. You'll find detailed driving tour descriptions for each island listed under that island.
While Lopez Island is on the marine highway route, it is not part of the official Scenic Byway, however, it has many beautiful areas to explore as well.
