Pedal pushers of all levels are welcome on the San Juan Islands, and we conveniently have three tiers of cycling ready prepared for you.
For a gentle start, head first to the least hilly island, Lopez, where you can easily cycle the entire island in a day. If you follow the road around the island you will be by the water for a good part of the time, and there are plenty of stop-offs for picnics, wildlife viewing or short hikes.
San Juan Island is more challenging. You can also circumnavigate this island in a day—the road is about 20 miles, but there are enough places of interest along the way that you might want to factor in two or three days so you can explore a little.
Orcas Island is most challenging, even for fit and experienced cyclists. The island has some good hills, and if you really want to push yourself, head for the top of Mount Constitution (2,409 feet). It might exhaust you, but views from the top of the surrounding area will take away any breath you have left.
Please note that there are no bicycle lanes in the Islands.
