Met Music Director James Levine conducts a spirited new production of Mozart’s masterpiece, directed by Richard Eyre, who sets the action of this classic domestic comedy in a 19th-century manor house in Seville, but during the gilded age of the late 1920s. Dashing bass-baritone Ildar Abdrazakov leads the cast in the title role of the clever servant, opposite Marlis Petersen as his bride, Susanna, Peter Mattei as the philandering Count they work for, Marina Poplavskaya as the long-suffering Countess, and Isabel Leonard as the libidinous pageboy Cherubino. [more...]

SJCT joins more than 1,900 theaters in 64 countries that will record the live transmissions via a satellite feed and then present them to theater audiences. This goofy musical spoof on the Law and Order television series features two detectives who have to figure out what happened to Humpty Dumpty when bits of shell are discovered scattered around at the foot of a wall. In the course of their investigation they interview Little Bo Peep, Georgie Porgie, the Sprats, a Little Old Woman who Lives in a Shoe and other familiar characters from Mother Goose. [more...]

San Juan Island’s community chorus is going straight to the heart of Christmas this year, with beautiful settings of familiar carols and Christmas traditionals. To add to the festivity, an island-grown chamber orchestra will join the Singers onstage for John Rutter's Magnificat. This energetic, joyful piece sets the Magnificat text and a 15th century prayer to Mary in lush harmonies and dancing rhythms.

On Christmas Eve, Marie’s godfather, Drosselmeyer, gives her a strange toy: a wooden nutcracker carved in the shape of a little man.
