Many of today’s island families are descended from U.S. Army soldiers. Join Park Historian Mike Vouri and learn more about how American Camp’s “frontiersmen in blue” played a key role in pioneering Euro-American settlement on San Juan Island. Vouri also will discuss how
agricultural operations changed the character of island landscapes, at American Camp.

This weekend festival features an extensive line-up of musicians, local cuisine, camping and activities in one of the most picturesque venues the Northwest has to offer. The 2013 Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival will open with the reunion of three magnificent musicians: Jeffrey Kahane, piano; Joseph Swensen, violin; and Carter Brey, cello. Three well known concertmasters will be featured together in one program – William Preucil (Cleveland Orchestra), Martin Chalifour (Los Angeles Philharmonic) and Margaret Batjer (Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra). Also performing this summer are Toby Appel, viola;  Stephanie Sant’Ambrogio and Alexandra Preucil, violin; Eric Kim and Lachezar Kostov, cello; Viktor Valkov, piano; and of course OICMF Artistic Director Aloysia Friedmann, violin/viola and Artistic Advisor Jon Kimura Parker, piano!
