The Orcas Island 25k (and its sister race, the Orcas Island 50k) is quite unique in the trail running world. The course alone makes this race special - old-growth forests, tough climbs, and spectacular views of surrounding islands, mountains, and Puget Sound - but what truly sets it apart is the sense of community. With live music, great post-race food and beer, and a chance to hang out all weekend on a gorgeous island with your trail runner friends, these are the oldest and some of the most beloved of all the Rainshadow running races. Runners will have 6 hours to complete the 25k course.
Crossing the Ice:
This film follows Australian adventurers Justin Jones and James Castrission’s 2012 journey across Antarctica to the South Pole and back. Making history, the duo tackled the perilous journey totally unassisted — no sled dogs, no wind kites, just two men on skis, dragging their food, their shelter and themselves across 1140 kilometers of barren ice … and back again. Running time: 44 minutes
Crossing the Ditch:
The film tells the extraordinary story of two young men who crossed the extremely treacherous Tasman Sea in a kayak. The Tasman, which spans 2200 kilometers between Australia and New Zealand, had never before been successfully navigated in a kayak. Many had tried, and all had failed (once with a tragic outcome). In 2007, Australians James Castrission and Justin Jones took on the Tasman and conquered it. In their tiny kayak, they battled ten-meter towering waves, massive storms, sharks and currents that conspired against them. Running time: 55 minutes
The Lopez Island Family Resource Center and the Lopez Children's Center will once again be the beneficiaries of the evening's net proceeds of this wonderful concert by Lane Langford & Friends.
San Juan Island’s first and only professional dance company presents its first full length contemporary ballet, an adult fairy tale, featuring professional dancers.
Prince of the Rain Realm was written and choreographed by La Danse de la Mer’s director Lina Downes, who has presented a variety of annual dance and song events in the Whittier for the past seven years.
The contemporary ballet will include diverse selections of music from Pink Floyd to Mozart and a “good versus evil” theme. “If you like Tokien’s Ring, Harry Potterand even Wagner’s Ring, you’ll love this fantastical production,” said Lina.
