Hear ye, hear ye! Renowned Shakespearean actors and enthusiastic small-town performers are coming together on Orcas Island for two days of entertainment in March.

The 2nd AnnualShakespeare Festival will feature a production by the Seattle Shakespeare Company, parades, and impromptu acting by Orcas musicians and performers both young and old, and a variety of offerings from island restaurants, hotels and shops for visitors and locals alike. Restaurants and shops will feature ‘Shakespearean Specials’ that weekend, transforming the island into a Salish Sea version of Stratford-upon-Avon.

No festival is complete without a Parade! You are invited to take part in the Eastsound Shakespeare Parade on Saturday, March 23 at 11:00 a.m.  We will parade up North Beach Road, and end at the Eastsound Village Green.  

Thursday, March 21 from 6:00 - 9:30 p.m., the Shakespeare Festival kicks off with a unique dining experience at Sazio di Notte (website) in Eastsound.  The Seattle Shakespeare Company's troupe of actors will join us for this inspired - and specially-crafted 5-course dinner, as well as provide insight into their upcoming performance of 'Julius Caesar.' Chef/Owner Bill Patterson will prepare a signature meal, featuring fresh, local food This dinner will have limited seating for 50 people only, and includes wine (Sazio's excellent wine list also available for an additional charge).  The cost per person is $125. Friday, March 22 at 10:00 a.m. at the Orcas Center, the Seattle Shakespeare Company The Seattle Shakespeare Company will hold a special class just for Orcas Island teens. This will be an action-packed afternoon, as the visiting actors demonstrate and perform stage moves showing how actors convincingly - and safely - fight on-stage. The students then take to the stage to try their hand at this realistic rendition of 'Combat Acting.'  Then  at 1:00 p.m. Orcas students are provided a special treat with this preview performance of 'Julius Caesar' by the acting troupe from Seattle Shakespeare Company.   At 4:00 p.m. at the Outlook Inn's Victorian Room,  it's the adults' turn!  The actors from the Seattle Shakespeare Company prepare for an adventurous group, as adults are encouraged to learn how they can unleash their inner thespians, and prepare to do combat on-stage!  "Throw a punch ... take a punch ... swing a sword ... manage a mace ... or handle a battle axe!"  You are invited to sign-up and be a part of this special acting class.  Limited to 30 adults, this promises to be an experience you won't forget!  Contact the Chamber of Commerce to sign-up by calling 360-376-2273.

Saturday, March 23, starting at 11:00 a.m., the Orcas Island Shakespeare Festival really takes off today!  Costumed street performers, wandering musical minstrels, and festival gaiety overtake the Village of Eastsound.  You're invited to take part in the fun.

• 11:00 a.m. - Parade through Eastsound • 11:30 a.m. - William Shakespeare arrives at the Village Green • 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. -  Festival fun on the Village Green, with music, performers and an Orcas Island Farmers Market Seattle Shakespeare Company performs 'Julius Caesar'

On Saturday, March 23 , at the Orcas Center,  there is a wine reception at 7:00 p.m. with the performance at 8:00 p.m.  The Festival concludes on Saturday night with a performance of 'Julius Caesar' by the Seattle Shakespeare Company.  Ticket holders are invited to join us for a wine reception at the Orcas Center beginning at 7:00 p.m.
