Bring the whole family to a wonderful free evening of Shakespeare performed in the outdoors. Written just after “Hamlet” was completed, “Twelfth Night” reveals a more mature Shakespeare, writing about miracles of reconciliation, of second chances and of redemption. Classic Shakespearean dramatic irony is paired with his trademark laugh-out-loud comedy plus a liberal dose of romance. Perennially popular, this play is Shakespeare at his best. Please dress warmly and bring a blanket. Chairs are provided at the San Juan venues. No tickets or reservations are needed. We are on a first-come-and-welcome-all basis.

Daniel Finn:  Singin’ His Own Songs

Ian Boulton:  Acoustic Ballads

Both of these island singers/guitarists got their start at the age of 12. Daniel says he’s been writing songs in a kind of “crypto-pop/rock/soul-skidded groove” since then and has been performing them on San Juan Island for the past 35 years, including many concerts at the SJCT. Self-taught, Ian learned to play guitar by ear, listening to songs on albums of the many singer/songwriters of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. His primary influences include Neil Young, James Taylor (mostly their early work) and, later, Pete Townshend of The Who. He enjoys playing classic acoustic rock music on both 6 and 12-string guitars.

The Bobs, described by the Seattle Times as "a musical equivalent of a Gary Larsen drawing, "use just their voices and body percussion to fill a room with an orchestra of harmonious sound. They have left an indelible mark on vocal music, expertly skewering standards and establishing their own hilarious norms. Once dubbed the only New Wave a cappella group in history, "The Bobs," commented The Washington Post, "prove that the human voice remains the most powerful instrument of all."

Burgers & Brew before the show at 6:00 p.m.! $15 at the door.

The Friday Harbor Art Market begins its third season in Friday Harbor on the Brickworks Plaza, June 20. The art market will run every Friday from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. through August 29.  There will be several new artists this year, joining the “Artisan’s on the Plaza”, not only from San Juan Island but also from Orcas, Lopez and Waldron islands. The variety of work will include jewelry, pottery, photography, baskets, clothing, woodwork, glass, paintings, soaps, art cards, screen printing, lotions, and more.

Cynthia's of Course! will be the seasonal food vendor, serving up her specialties each week.

The music lineup is complete as the market welcomes back Teddy Deane, The Rocky Bay Boys, Oliver Strasser, Kuba Tana Marimba and Katura  Marimba.

New to the art market will be a "hands-on" activity, called “The Creation Station". This will be an interactive art station for kids to adults and anyone who drops in to the station will walk away with their on artistic creation.  Pamela Hoke, nature artist and gallery owner, is coordinating this free 7-8 week event and will be facilitating several projects herself.

For information as to how you can participate as an artist, a food vendor, a musician or an art project facilitator, contact Debbie Pigman, pigmansartworks@rockisland.com  or 360-472-0216.
