The Barefoot Bandit tells the almost unbelievable tale of the life and capture of Northwest native Colton Harris-Moore, following his legendary two-year international crime spree (which included exploits in the San Juans) that captured the imagination of the public and press around the nation.

The film explores the dynamics of Harris-Moore’s family as well as his personal exploration and growth. The teenage boy who camped in the woods and, wearing no shoes, broke into vacation homes, became obsessed with airplanes. His dream of flying and designing airplanes became a reality when he ran away from a halfway house at the age of 15 and stole the first of five airplanes. He survived several crash landings while flying across the U.S. and eventually ended up in the Bahamas, where he was arrested.  Colton’s captor, lawyer, mother and the FBI team that hunted him for two years, as well as others involved in this real-life drama, tell the truly amazing story of “The Barefoot Bandit.”

Bolshoi Ballet Only in Cinemas Romeo and Juliet (recorded live on May 12th, 2013). In Verona, the rivalry between the Capulets and the Montagues brings bloodshed to the city. When the Capulets organise a masked ball in honour of their daughter Juliet, Romeo Montague and his friend Mercutio attend incognito because of the hatred that tears the two houses apart. Romeo and Juliet fall madly in love, and are distraught when they realise they belong to rival families.

William Shakespeare’s timeless story, written in 1595, is brought to the stage through breathtaking choreography and Sergei Prokofiev’s much-loved score. With its famous melodies, rhythmic variety and universal theme, this story of impossible love remains an all-time favourite, and is one of the world’s most popular ballets.

Stellar performances by Alexander Volchkov and Anna Nikulina illuminate this masterpiece, making the immortal tale of the lovers of Verona an unforgettable experience.

American Camp & English Camp

San Juan Island National Historical Park is organizing its second annual free BioBlitz event at both park units -- American Camp and English Camp. This year they will be focusing on amphibians and birds, though the event is open to any taxonomic interest.

A BioBlitz is a unique combination of taxonomic inventory, public outreach and science education. At its core, the BioBlitz is a species inventory in which teams of volunteers, each led by an expert scientist, find, identify, and photograph as many species as possible within a defined amount of time. This snapshot view helps us look at many different habitats over the same period, and better understand what lives in the park.

"The success of a BioBlitz depends greatly on the knowledge and enthusiasm of the participants," said Raena Parsons, park education specialist. "Come join us and share your knowledge."
