"Trio of Textures...Fall Colors in Glass, Clay and Wood". Crow Valley Pottery has assembled a colorful collection of pumpkins, gourds and birds of the season! Glasswork by Glassquest Studio brings pumpkins in all manner of shapes, sizes and colors! Their curly green stems contrast with the bright colors of the fruit itself...perfect for the fall table! Of course the much-loved pots from our own studios will join the glass work in the window at our Eastsound gallery! Jeffri's artistry is evident as he puts his hand to pottery...plates to platters...with curly stems and bright leaves. Accompanying the autumn colors are the wonderful carved birds, in reclaimed wood of course, of Marlene Dusbiber. This trio of textures sets the tone for Crow Valley's fall season...with a host of new offerings that for 49 years has defined the Orcas Island art scene.

The Orcas Island Artworks features quilts by Irene Anda, Maggie Kaplan and Merry Bush. Maggie Kaplan, who shows a variety of fabric and wall art at the Artworks, has taken many workshops and quilting classes. Irene Anda describes quilting as a process of building art from color. Merry Bush has been sewing since the age of nine and shows buntings and hand knitted items at the Artworks.

Walk history, from the days of Lummi longhouses, through the unlikely partnership of the Reverend and the saloon-keeper, to the bonny resort days of the Madrona Inn dock, the Beach Lodge and Crescent Beach Cottages, beyond the wisdom of garage owner Roger Purdue "If I can't fix it, I'll fix it so nobody can!" and the crackling pot-belly stove of old Templin's Store, to the still bountiful orchards and farmhouses now the commercial heart of the island.

This class is a unique combination of TWO powerful approaches to help you cultivate the ability to calm the mind, support your sense of well-being and stay balanced in yourself. When body and mind are in harmony, your spirit will be at peace. Using Meditation and laying the ground work for cultivating awareness of the body, calming the mind and allowing healing to happen naturally; Tai Chi develops proper posture, balance, flexibility, coordination and maintaining health. (A modified Sun Style Tai Chi will be taught as an introduction, to be followed by Yang Style Tai Chi.) Reduce stress, induce relaxation, pain management and learn to free yourself of "habitual patterns" that cause unnecessary suffering are some of the benefits of this work. All ages and experience levels including beginners are welcome.
